Buying Guide for ACOG Alternatives and ACOG Clone in 2023
While looking for the best ACOG clones and alternatives in the market for yourself, you might need a proper guideline. Because it can be a very tricky process sometimes as the market is flooded with numerous models offering more or less the same modern features while having their own limitations too.
Therefore, in our article we have tried to help you with a buying guide that might help you a bit.
Material
Whether you are buying a real one or a clone, the building material of the optics is always an important factor to look at before purchasing it. You will obviously go to use under all conditions may be a durable one.
Hence, a ruggedly built optic will provide you a satisfactory service with enough longevity which depends on the construction material. Usually, the ACOG scopes are made of aircraft-grade aluminium alloy to make them shockproof and durable.
Magnification
This is a factor that depends on your need although most ACOG clones come with a fixed magnification power. From close/mid- range scopes to long-range optics are available in the market. You have to decide which one you would need for serving your purpose.
Usually for short range shooting a magnification level of 1x seems to be enough whereas an ACOG optic with 4x magnification would do just fine for long- range shooting activities.
Battery Life & Brightness Setting
When it comes to batteries you must remember one thing that the clones wouldn’t use Tritium for adjusting the brightness levels. Rather they would use Lithium batteries as their power source.
As most of the ACOG clones have illuminated reticles, a lifetime of the battery is an important feature to pay your attention to. If the scope doesn’t offer any brightness settings or illuminated reticles then buying one would be nothing but a waste of your money.
Features & Suitability
While purchasing an optic you should always look for the best possible modern features the scope can offer within your expected price range. Besides, nowadays an ACOG clone riflescope offers more or less quite a lot of modern features at a very affordable price.
Therefore, before buying one you should look for detailed optical & construction features. One must make sure of the fact that they are going to have a standout optic by spending the hard earned money.
Price
Spending too much money on such optics these days for regular purposes would not be a great idea. Spending anything more than $500 USD would not be worthy of it as you can get an ACOG clone optic with all the modern features at this price range quite easily.
If you are not going to spend your hard earned money for a real one then you should always look for the best clones within your budget. And it can be said without a grain of doubt, these ACOG clones are no less than the real ones and offer all the features just like the real optics.
So, be smart and spend your money wisely.
What are ACOG Clones – Advanced Combat Optical Gunsights

The ability of the ACOG scopes to be used in low light conditions is outstanding. People who live in extreme conditions have always put good reviews about the performance of ACOG optics.
They have got a rugged structure and provide durable service. Even in dim light conditions, with the help of its illuminated red dot (which is available in two or three colours) you can still have a clear image of the target.
The Trijicon ACOG riflescope is battery less and rather than using the battery it uses Tritium for the brightness purpose which also has several settings. So, there is no doubt about the fact that ACOG scopes are completely worth it.
Are ACOG scopes legal?
Yes they are legal. All the patents of the ACOG scopes have a life expectancy. Once they are expired, the manufacturers would start producing generic products without using the same trademarks on any current unexpired patents.
Back in 2008 the design patent for the Trijicon scope (1980s model) expired. So, the Trijicon has moved on and they don’t even manufacture this model anymore. It implies that the manufacturers can use the exterior body design.
Although the utility patent of the power source and the internal components have not expired yet. Therefore, there is no legal issue in selling the appearance of an ACOG scope (1980’s model) in the USA, as long as the internal property is different until the utility patent expires.
What is an ACOG scope in modern warfare?
The Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG) is a telescopic sight which has been used in battlefields since the 1990’s by the US Navy SEALs first.
It is available with a magnification level of 4x and also offers illuminated reticles to keep performing in low light conditions. Besides, the ACOG scope can use several reticles when it is needed like the Red Dot Sight and Holographic Sight.
Although it is a good fit for all kinds of weapons, the ACOG scope happens to be an ideal optic for guns like M16, Type 95, MK14, and Sniper Rifles.
When it is equipped on the mentioned guns, the scope allows the shooter to be more accurate by including an extra zooming option. Moreover, when it is mounted on a Sniper Rifle it can allow the shooter to be more mobile with his position while having a clear shot at the target.
About Cheap ACOG
Mini ACOG
A mini ACOG is always the best choice for short range shooting or in speed oriented platforms. They don’t weigh too much so that you can carry them without any trouble. They also provide mobility for the shooter with excellent fire control capability.
The Trijicon 1.5×16 is a great example of a mini ACOG rifle scope. It features dual fiber optic illumination & a large field of view compared to other optics. So, if you are looking for a mini ACOG for your firearm then undoubtedly the Trijicon would be a great choice.
Red Dot Vs ACOG
ACOG(s) are ruggedly built and they are supposed to endure any austere conditions. The scope also provides a crisp & clear sight of the target. One of the best features is that the Trijicon Acog offers a battery-free optic & the use of fiber optics and tritium as the source of power to illuminate the reticle. For more red dot vs ACOG details check the differences.
On the contrary, the Red dot scopes are unmatched when it comes to close range combat. A red dot is quite faster on target acquisition than iron sights and easier to use than a magnified rifle scope.
ACOG Vs Elcan
The ACOG is an American product and the ELCAN is a Canadian one. Both have been used in the battlefield too. The ACOG is available with a fixed magnification power while the ELCAN offers a variable zoom optic between 1X and 4X.
One of the prime differences between the ACOG and the ELCAN scope is that the ELCAN Specter features the 1X to 4X switch lever. You can instantly change or adjust the magnification power by using that.
The ELCAN provides the longest eye relief (70mm) compared to the ACOG (38.1 mm). The Field Of View of the ELCAN at 4X and ACOG 4X are about 34.2 – 37 ft at 100 yards whereas The ACOG 3.5X provides only 28.9 ft at 100 yards.
Above all. ELCAN seems to be the winner when it comes to dual role capabilities but the ACOG is always the better one when it comes to weight, price, performance etc.
ACOG Eye Relief
ACOG scopes usually offer a generous level of eye relief yet there are a number of models which do not come with a satisfactory level of that.
For example, in the TA31f the eye relief doesn’t seem that great but most ACOGs are usually calibrated for 5.56. There are some optics which are made for 7.62. So, it is true that in some of the ACOG models’ eye relief is an issue for some but it is not as shitty as it may seem over the random internet opinions.
ACOG Knockoff
ACOGs are quite popular in the optic market and it is nothing new. Because of their high-end quality and durable performance the demand for these scopes stays always high.
Besides, not everyone wants to purchase an original ACOG scope. Hence, to satisfy the customer’s need and to offer the closest performance there are some really cool ACOG knockoffs available in the market.
Fake ACOG
ACOG optics do always come with the best optical features and awesome build quality. But they are also quite expensive. That is why spending such a great deal of money would surely make one think.
If you are not looking for the original ACOG optic then spending anything above $500 USD would be a foolish idea.
To help you out and also satisfy you with great modern features just like the real ACOs, there are always the best ACOG clones or Fake ACOGs available in the market. You just need to find out the best fit for your firearm.
How to spot a fake Trijicon Acog?
How to tell if a trijicon acog is real?
How To Zero An ACOG?
You have to unload the weapon first and then pull back on the charging handle. After placing the ACOG mounting base on the rails on top of the receiver you have to tighten the screws with your fingers.
Then unscrew the adjuster caps of the ACOG and load the weapon with one round, aim it at the backstop and fire one round. Afterwards, unload the weapon and set it aside & start walking towards the 100-meter target post and mount the target there.
Now load the weapon with a full magazine and take a one round shot straight at the target. Measure the vertical distance from the hole to the center of the target by counting the squares.
Then turn the elevation screw on the top of the ACOG with that audible “click” sound & on every 1/4 inch of distance you need to move the POI. If the POI is low, turn the screw in the U direction marked on the ACOG. If the POI is high, then turn it in the D direction.
Again measure the horizontal distance from the hole to the center of the target now. Then turn the windage screw on the top of the ACOG to adjust the POI. If the POI is to the left, turn the screw in the R direction. If the POI is to the right, then turn it in the L direction.
Fire another round at the center of the target and repeat the adjustment steps if it seems necessary. Replace the target with a fresh one and fire 10 rounds at the center of the target. If the grouping is within the MOA for the sight and is roughly centered on the middle of the target, your ACOG is zeroed properly.
